Emil Tischbein, a careful and responsible boy, travels alone by train from his small hometown to Berlin carrying money for his grandmother. After a stranger steals the money while Emil sleeps, he refuses to give up and, with the help of a resourceful group of Berlin children led by Gustav, organizes a citywide search for the thief. The story combines suspense, humour, and clever detective work while celebrating courage, friendship, and cooperation.
